MY STORY
My name is Sammy El Houdaigui, and I created Phronesis Medical Training to bridge the gap between textbook learning and real-world patient care. I’ve spent years working across nearly every side of respiratory care — from homecare and sleep medicine to subacute care, ICU, critical care, and clinical operations leadership.
Long before I became a Respiratory Therapist, I started in homecare helping coordinate medical equipment and respiratory support for patients transitioning home from the hospital. That experience shaped how I see healthcare today: patients and nurses need practical, real-world support not just theory. Over the last 20 years,
I’ve worked in:
● Homecare respiratory services ● ICU and critical care ● Sleep medicine ● Subacute and long-term care ● Clinical operations and staff education ● Nurse respiratory training programs For nearly 8 years, I’ve trained nurses in ventilator management, tracheostomy care, respiratory emergencies, airway management, and CPR through hands-on, scenario-based learning. I built Phronesis Medical Training because I saw how many nurses were expected to manage complex respiratory patients with limited hands-on training and little real-world preparation. My goal is simple: Help nurses feel confident, calm, and capable when respiratory emergencies happen. My classes are designed to feel practical, interactive, approachable, and realistic — because that’s how healthcare works in the real world. Outside of healthcare, I’m also an immigrant, entrepreneur, husband, and multilingual educator who speaks five languages. I believe communication, confidence, and practical wisdom are just as important as clinical knowledge. That belief is what inspired the name: Phronesis — practical wisdom.

My mission is to empower nurses and healthcare professionals through hands-on, real-world respiratory and emergency training that builds confidence, critical thinking, and practical bedside skills.
At Phronesis Medical Training, we believe healthcare education should go beyond memorization and focus on preparing clinicians for real patient situations. Through interactive instruction led by an experienced ICU and Homecare Respiratory Therapist, we help healthcare professionals feel more prepared to respond to ventilator emergencies, tracheostomy care challenges, airway situations, and life-saving interventions with confidence and competence.
MY VISION
My vision is to become San Diego’s trusted leader in hands-on respiratory and emergency training for nurses and healthcare professionals by creating a learning environment rooted in practical wisdom, real clinical experience, and authentic bedside teaching.
We aim to bridge the gap between classroom learning and real-world patient care by helping healthcare professionals feel confident, capable, and supported in the moments that matter most.
